friday

Regardless of one's political position, troops are often deployed to represent their country and aid their allies in combat. It is a career path chosen by many men and women within a democratic society; as such, a soldier's choice, not necessarily one's political inclinations, is often what dictates a nation's support.

In Canada, support is shown by wearing red on Fridays. In the USA, patriots sport magnetic yellow ribbons on their cars. How does your country, city, state, town or classroom show its support?

Jaylyn's grandfather served in World War II with the British 8th Army of Engineers. His experiences are not yet well documented but through historical research, she's learned that his regiment represented its country with great honour.

Although uncertainty still resides amongst the familial hierarchy, it is well-known that amidst such tumultuous times, the greatest comfort came in the form of his friendships with his knowing comrades, while the greatest hope came from the family & life that awaited him back home.

Please send your military-related experiences/anecdotes to just friday. Be sure to follow the submission guidelines located within this site and remember...it's Just Jaylyn...
